Our story
Sziggy was born from the cofounders shared, tragically common experience. Both have felt the profound pain of losing male loved ones to depression-related suicide. It’s their journey through personal loss and healing that is the driving force behind Sziggy.
We all struggle. But society teaches men to put on a brave face, “man-up”, and hide their problems. This narrative can have devastating consequences. We’re here to change this story.
Finding the right therapist can be overwhelming, especially during times of crisis. We know because we've been there. That's why we’re redefining the path to mental wellness.
Leveraging our cofounders expertise as two early Monzo employees, Sziggy is pioneering a smarter way to match men with therapists who can truly make a difference.
While therapy isn't a panacea to all your problems, we strongly believe in its transformative power. Sziggy isn't just a platform—it's a partner in your journey towards healing and growth. We're committed to supporting you every step of the way.
Our mission
We’re here to break down the barriers men face when seeking help, by connecting them with the right support. We’ll start with 10 men, then 100, then 1,000, 10,000, 100,000, 1,000,000…you get our point.
But, it takes a village to turn these numbers into narratives of healing and hope. If our mission resonates and you’d like to help—get in touch on hellosziggy@gmail.com or join our waitlist.
Why just guys?
We’re starting with men because that's where the need is greatest. Enormous societal pressure demands that they be emotionally strong and never show weakness.
The data reflects this reality, proving that men are more reluctant to seek help. Emotional suppression can lead to a buildup of stress in the mind and body—with severe consequences for both.
But getting the right support is a universal need, and this is just the beginning for Sziggy. Stay connected with us as we grow our reach to help more people.
Why Sziggy?
Sziggy (pronounced ZIHG-ee) is a nod to Sigmund Freud. The famous Austrian psychotherapist was affectionately known as “Golden Siggie” by his mum.
Ziggy Stardust’s song Heroes also had an influence, but that’s a longer story best told over a cup of tea.
FAQs
-
Sziggy is a service that finds the right therapist for men seeking effective therapy.
Finding the right therapist can be really challenging. Online directories don’t make searching easy, and you might not know what you’re look for.
We take time to understand your needs and match you with a therapist who can address your specific challenges .
-
Unlike other services, we don't just connect you to any available therapist. We match you with someone we’re confident is the right fit for you, which can be a total game changer.
We know how difficult it can be to open up and share your story with someone new, let alone doing it multiple times if you don’t gel with the therapist you’ve been assigned to.Finding the right therapist means you’re more likely to work through your problems successfully—that’s what matters to us.
-
We use a detailed set of questions developed with therapists to understand your situation.
Based on what you tell us, we find a therapist that we’re confident has the right experience and will use a suitable approach to work through your challenges with you.
Therapists can only join the Sziggy database by recommendation. We closely vet therapists to give you the best chances of getting a successful outcome with the one we match you with.
-
Matching is initially free. If you’re happy after three sessions, we charge a one-time fee based on what you can afford, from £30–£80.
This helps pay for time and work that goes into finding your therapist. It also lets us continue our mission of helping as many men as possible get the support they need.
-
Therapy costs vary by therapist, ranging from £50-150 per session. We’ll discuss your budget during our matching call.
You can arrange payment with your therapist directly. In the future, you’ll be able to pay through Sziggy.
-
Not yet (but hopefully soon). Check with your insurance provider to see if they cover the therapist you end up with.
-
If you’re looking for a therapist, sign up to the waitlist and we’ll be in touch as soon as we can (our team is very small at the moment so please bear with us on this).
We’ll arrange a 45-minute matching call with you to take a detailed history, understand what’s going on for you and figure out what therapy you need.
Based on what you tell us, we’ll find your best therapist match and will send you their profile.
With your permission, we’ll share your background and story with the therapist so you don’t need to repeat yourself.
If you’re happy to proceed with the match, we’ll offer you an optional 15-min intro call with your therapist before your first session so you can get a better sense of who they are. Alternatively, you can go straight into your first session with them.
-
Not at all. Sziggy can help whether you're new to therapy or have had it before.
-
For now, yes. But it’s our long term plan to expand to everyone. Stay updated via our waitlist.
-
If you're not satisfied within 3 sessions, we'll rematch you for free without needing to retell your story.
However, we’re extremely confident this won’t happen.
-
Totally up to you! Online therapy offers a larger pool of therapists though so we recommend being flexible here.
-
It depends on your goals. If you want support for an isolated incident (e.g. bereavement, relationship breakdown, major life changes) 6–12 sessions on a weekly or fortnightly basis is usually the minimum needed.
If you’re looking for a long-term therapist, we recommend fortnightly or monthly depending on your situation and personal preference.
We’ll discuss your goals and recommend an approach during your matching call.
-
Therapy is about you and your goals. Your therapist will usually begin by giving you the space to talk.
They will ask you questions to go a bit deeper and understand what’s going on for you, how you think about things and how that affects your behaviours.
Depending on the therapist and the type of therapy, they might offer you homework or exercises to do together. Remember, therapy is a personal experience, and it might look different for everyone.
The key is open communication with your therapist to ensure the process feels right for you.
